Basic overview
The are not bullet proof and neither are you
Once your teenager has been arrested, precipitated a drug crisis, or some other family crisis as a result of drug abuse or drug addiction, the rules have changed. Do not believe their promises (you are dealing with a drug now); do not give into their pleas, cons, and manipulations about how they can do this on their own or that “there isn’t really a problem here” (the inner drug entity is probably in control, not the child you raised); prepare yourself for the fight of their life. They can not see or understand the danger and so you have to take charge of this battle. But it will not be in the traditional and controlling manner you took charge when they were little. You do not want to be an enabler. You will have much less direct influence over them (physically, emotionally, and legally) and will have to rely on additional resources, your own instincts, and community support that you didn’t need before.
Our book, Sober Coaching Your Toxic Teen, Explores all the scenarios and gives step by step
directions on
meeting this drug crisis. This book can be one of your greatest
resources. To get you started, we have listed some great
resources below to help in this crisis.

Rand Study
Is teen treatment effective?
Researchers interviewed youths treated in 11 adolescent programs that had been identified as effective, in order to learn whether they had better outcomes. The study failed to find strong evidence of greater treatment effectiveness at the facilities studied.
This is one of many reasons we do not believe in sending kids to "kid" treatment. They belong with adults in regular treatment centers.
